How to light a small living room

Small rooms fail when every light sits on the ceiling. The light hits the floor and the corners stay gray. Start with a floor lamp behind the sofa, aimed at the wall, so the room gets a wash instead of a spotlight.

Add a table lamp at seated eye level. The shade should hide the bulb. A warm 2700K bulb keeps wood and fabric looking soft after sunset.
